THE VILLAGE OF SOČA

An oasis between Bovec and Trenta

Apart from its idyllic location in the heart of the Triglav National Park, the village is a starting point for exploring the natural sights and adventures in the Soča Valley, which attract visitors from all over the world.

From here, a wide network of hiking trails stretches out, suitable for short walks or longer trips, as well as various cycling routes along the surrounding roads, offering numerous climbs and beautiful nature.

On your walks, you will be able to experience the pleasant homeliness of 140 residents from 71 houses. In the 1870 census, there were 144 houses in the village with 840 inhabitants. In less than 150 years, the population has decreased by 75%, which hints at the prospect of the village gradually succumbing to nature’s embrace over time.

After the First World War, the village of Soča came under Italian rule, which brought about the change of names of places (Sonzia) and people and the dominance of the Italian language. Parts of the infrastructure and defensive fortifications are still visible today. After the Second World War, these places became Slovenian again and the development of tourism began.

SOČA TRAIL

Just a few steps from Residence Soča, the famous Soča Trail offers unforgettable views of the emerald alpine beauty, the river after which it takes its name. Crossing its rope bridges will be a particularly delightful experience as you discover its turquoise pools accompanied by the sounds of the many birds that inhabit the Triglav National Park.

ALPE ADRIA TRAIL

The international Alpe Adria Trail also passes by our residence. The 750 kilometre long route takes you from the foot of Austria’s highest mountain to the Italian coast of the Adriatic Sea. You start the Slovenian part of the route in Kranjska Gora, and across the Vršič pass the picturesque Soča Valley opens up marked by one of the most beautiful rivers in the world, which flows under our residence and eases your endeavour with breathtaking masterpieces created by nature.
