KARST SPRING IN THE JULIAN ALPS
The source of the Soča River is located at an altitude of approximately 990 m, at the foot of the 2379 m high Travnik mountain. During long dry periods, the spring almost dries up, but otherwise it is a relatively strong karst spring. The water that flows from the nearby cave soon descends through steep rapids and at the beginning also a small waterfall.

TRAVEL INSTRUCTIONS
We drive towards the Vršič pass, but only up to the 49th serpentine of the Vršič road (near the village of Trenta). Here we turn to the side road in the direction of the source of the river Soča. After a short climb, the road quickly leads us to the parking lot in front of the cottage at the source of the Soča River.

The start of the route, at the signpost
From the Hut the source of the Soča, we first cross the Soča river on the main road, and then the signpost directs us to the right into the forest.

Picture of the trail, follow the signposts
We quickly reach the benches and tables where we continue to the right and cross the Soča River on the right over the bridge. In the continuation, we then climb along the river for a while, and higher up we come to a crossroads with signposts. To the left is just a few meters to the viewpoint, and to the right the more challenging path continues towards the source of the Soča. If we continue to the right, the path leads us to the first steel lines after a short steep climb.
We walk along the exposed path next to the steel lines
The path climbs steeply over rocky terrain and leads us to an even more challenging part of the path. Here the path also becomes exposed and crosses an almost vertical wall just above the river. After a short but fairly demanding crossing, the path leads us to the source of the Soča river with the help of steel cables and some staples.
