Practicing yoga in the Soča Valley
The gentle movements of yoga are a big reason why it is so popular. Yoga is good for people who haven’t been active in a while. It is good for people who have certain health problems such as arthritis or osteoporosis. You can modify the exercises to suit your needs. But yoga is also great if you’re already in shape and want a challenging workout. As you become stronger and more flexible through yoga, it becomes easier to do other types of exercise such as dancing, walking or swimming.
Hatha yoga is a branch of yoga that uses physical techniques to maintain and direct the vital force or energy. The Sanskrit word haṭha literally means “force”, suggesting a system of physical techniques.
Hatha yoga focuses on posture and breathing techniques, traditionally for channeling the vital energy source.
The practice involves breathing, body and mind, and classes typically range from 45 to 90 minutes of breathing, yoga postures and meditation.
Hatha yoga breathing techniques can be traced back to the 1st century in Buddhist and Hindu texts, but it was another 1,000 years before the use of yoga postures, or asanas, was recorded as a way to strengthen vital energy.
