This incredible valley is one of the most beautiful snowshoeing destinations in the Soča Valley. Suitable for complete beginners, where we will spend our trip in the company of the surrounding peaks and exploring the varied fauna that makes this special area their home.
Perfectly balanced at the top of the winding Vrsič Pass, we will explore the starting points for many mountain adventures with wonderful views and a selection of cozy mountain huts that serve delicious traditional food.

Travel instructions:
This trip will take us to the highest lying road in Slovenia, which is closed to vehicles in winter – towards Mangart. The route will take us through tunnels carved into the mountains and up onto a vast snow-covered plateau leading to stunning views of the wide Mangart Saddle, with dramatic mountain scenery surrounding us.

Mikaela is an international mountain leader, photographer, British climbing instructor and qualified secondary school teacher. She is also the founder of ‘More To Explore’ in Slovenia!
After many years of exploring Slovenia, hiking, snowshoeing and climbing, she and her partner Zlatko moved with their young family from their home in Wales to a small scattered settlement in Geopark Idrija in 2021.
Her latest project, More to Explore, is focused on enabling adventure, travel and positive engagement with nature using hiking, snowshoeing, skill development and creativity to promote growth, understanding and connection with self, each other and the natural world.
There are countless opportunities for winter snowshoeing adventures in the Soča Valley. Fairy tale valleys, snowy plains, white meadows, and forest trails are practically at every turn. Snowshoeing is becoming an increasingly popular sport that takes you to the most pristine corners of the Soča Valley, which cannot be visited in winter months with traditional hiking boots.

Fun walking in the snow, which requires a pair of snowshoes, appropriate winter footwear, snow, warm clothing, and at night, a headlamp, is an excellent idea for a family winter outing.
