Fort Kluže
A fortress with a strategic position

The Fort Kluže is a mighty fortress located above the gorge of the Koritnica river and is one of the most visited cultural attractions in the Soča Valley. It is an important monument of defense against Turkish invasions, attacks by Napoleon’s army and battles during the First World War. Next to the fortress are also the emerald-green Koritnica riverbeds, which can be seen from the bridge, at a depth of 70 meters.
A permanent exhibition can be viewed in the fortress. Cultural and artistic events are also held in the fortress from time to time, as well as the 1313 show, which is performed for groups by uniformed soldiers, by prior arrangement. From the lower fortress of Kluže, you can go on a short hike to the upper fortress of Fort Hermann.
The Fort Kluže is located 4 km from Bovec in the direction of the Predel Pass.

HIKING TO THE MILITARY FORTIFICATIONS FORT HERMANN
From the parking lot, head to the wide path, which is located on the opposite side of the road from Fort Kluže (direction Rombon). The path, which barely climbs significantly, leads us after a few minutes of walking to the old military tunnel. Since the tunnel is quite long, a headlamp or some other lamp will help us. After the tunnel, the path brings us to a crossroads, where we continue left in the direction of Na Robu, 1313 (slightly right, Možnica). The path then climbs steeply for a short time, and then continues in a slight transverse ascent with some views towards the Fort Kluže. After about 30 minutes of walking, the path brings us to the next military fortifications of Fort Hermann.
