The Fishing House supports educational programs about nature, raises awareness among the local population and visitors, and trains guides for leading thematic trails along the Soča River. The house brings people together, educates, and maintains a connection between the local community, cultural heritage, nature, and visitors, with the aim of protecting the environment—especially the Soča River, the marble trout, and fishing, which is a key part of the heritage of the Upper Soča Valley.
The interactive exhibition on the ground floor presents one of the most popular forms of sport fishing—fly fishing. Through eight video recordings, visitors can learn about fly fishing on the Soča River, which is also the only permitted method of fishing in the upper course of the river. In a small pool, visitors can try catching artificial fish representing the native species of the Soča River: the marble trout and the grayling.
Tthe Fishing Trail begins and ends at the Fishing House, leading visitors to the Soča River – to the Brjeka pool.
The trail presents three main themes:
the conservation of native fish species,
the importance of the marble trout,
and the tradition of fly fishing in the Soča Valley.
Together, the Fishing Trail and the house showcase the rich natural and cultural heritage of fishing in the Upper Soča Valley. Anglers from all over the world are drawn to this part of Slovenia by its exceptionally well-preserved natural environment and the legendary marble trout, a symbol of the clean river and the region’s fishing tradition.

Native Fish of the Soča River
Marble Trout (Salmo marmoratus)
The marble trout is a native fish of the Upper Soča Valley, known for its distinctive marbled coloring and delicious flesh. It lives in the clean, fast-flowing waters of rivers like the Soča and is a symbol of a healthy natural environment and traditional fishing.
Grayling (Thymallus thymallus)
The grayling is a recognizable river fish with elegant fins and a slightly pinkish hue. It thrives in cold, well-oxygenated rivers and is popular among anglers for its fighting spirit and taste. Grayling is also an important indicator of the ecological health of river ecosystems.
