HISTORICAL MUSEUM IN KOBARID
The Kobarid Museum is dedicated to the protection and preservation of national treasures and museum materials in the field of protecting the heritage of the Isonzo Front, with an emphasis on presentation activities.
In the coming period, the Kobarid Museum strives to maintain and upgrade its role as a central institution for the presentation of the heritage of the Isonzo Front and to consolidate its importance in the Slovenian, European and global space.
Permanent exhibition
A map of European battlefields and political changes after the First World War, flags, portraits of soldiers and tombstones from the Upper Soča are part of the introductory display.
On the first floor there are rooms dedicated to the history of Kobarid, which lies at a strategic point between Friuli and Carinthia.
The museum collection focuses on the Isonzo Front with various thematic rooms: the Krn Room deals with the beginning of the fighting,
The White Room depicts the winter suffering of soldiers, the Back Room depicts life behind the front, and the Black Room warns of the futility of war.
The second floor depicts the final act of the Isonzo Front with an animated relief of the Battle of Kobarid and an emotional audio recording of a soldier’s letter. The exhibition is complemented by a documentary film in eleven languages.
The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions on various topics and virtual exhibitions.
Visitors can visit the museum individually or in a group.
Tickets can also be purchased online. For announced groups, the museum is also open outside of opening hours.

A guide in the desired language will be provided.
You can pay for the museum entrance fee in cash, by credit card, by order form or by voucher.
A typical museum tour lasts an hour and a half, and the guide will adapt to your wishes.
The museum organizes guided tours of the remains of the Isonzo Front in the vicinity of Kobarid, which complement the museum visit. You can go to the remains with a guide on foot or by bus.
Sports or hiking equipment is recommended. When booking a tour, the museum staff will provide you with additional information about the duration of the tour and the tour program.
The museum is open all year round.

Guided tours of the museum:
- €30 per hour for groups of less than 15 people

* The price is for one guide. A maximum of 30 people are recommended per guide.
Visiting temporary exhibitions is free of charge.
The Kobarid Museum is located in the town of Kobarid, which is just under 33 kilometers from our accommodation.
