Caving experience
DISCOVER THE MYSTERIOUS UNDERGROUND WORLD OF THE SONSA VALLEY – CAVE ADVENTURES FOR ALL ADRENALINE LOVERS!
Caving in the Soča Valley offers a unique opportunity to explore underground beauties, hidden tunnels and stalactite chambers. Under the guidance of experienced cavers, you can venture into the heart of the mysterious karst world and experience an unforgettable adventure in the dark.
Rain and melting snow persistently find their way through the Kanin Mountains, while water dissolves the limestone and seeps deep into the interior. Over the millennia, cracks, tunnels and chambers have formed, turning Kanin into a veritable underground network.
Every year, cavers from all over the world come here to explore its depths. They enter through chasms at high altitudes, descend hundreds of meters into the darkness, and then return or even find a passage through the entire mountain. Their expeditions can last several days.
The OPASEN agency offers you the opportunity to taste at least a little of this adventure in the stunning Srnica cave near the village of Plužna. A true caving experience!
After about 20 minutes of walking from the idyllic starting point at the source of the Glijun stream, we reach the foot of the cliff, where we are welcomed into the underground world. We climb to the hidden entrance and carefully crawl inside. Soon the tunnels widen and we can walk along underground corridors, occasionally making our way through narrow passages. All the more challenging parts are short and secured with ropes that ensure safety.
Dry feet are not guaranteed – in this natural labyrinth, you will also have to cross smaller water obstacles. The fossil hearts imprinted in the rocks are true natural art. And you will quickly fall in love with the little Srnica.
After about an hour of exploration, we see daylight through the upper exit and enjoy a stunning view of the untouched mountain landscape. We end the adventure with a rope descent – the perfect conclusion to an unforgettable underground experience!

Entrance to Mala Boka Cave (Golobja jama cave)
Mala Boka is one of the deepest karst caves in Slovenia, located at the foot of the Kanin massif. Its extensive network of tunnels, over 8,000 meters long, allows access only to experienced cavers with appropriate equipment and accompanied by a guide. Together with the “BC4” cave system, it reaches a depth of 1,319 meters, which makes it one of the most demanding underground systems in the region.
Mala Boka is famous for its demanding morphology, which includes numerous chasms, narrow passages and underground halls, formed over thousands of years of water action. The cave is part of the extensive Kanin cave system, which, due to its depth and complexity, is one of the most valued research terrains for cavers from all over the world.
Another special feature of Mala Boka are the underground streams that are fed from the karst hinterland of Kanin.
