Šunik’s water garden is 100 meters long and up to 10 meters wide troughs with blue-green pools. Tolmune was carved by the Lepenjica stream before the confluence with the Šunik stream.

TRAVEL INSTRUCTIONS

We turn into the Lepena valley in the village of Soča (sharp right from the direction of Bovec, left from the direction of Vršič). Just a few tens of meters further on, the road turns left and across the bridge over the Soča, immediately after it we turn right onto the asphalted road. We follow it for a good three kilometers to the well-maintained macadam parking lot at the Šunik water grove information board.

An undemanding marked path leads to Šunik water grove. There are two versions of the route. For a longer walk, take the 3 km long circular path, which has a starting point near the Klin camp. The shorter route begins further along the road, at the sign for Šunik water grove.

The path runs along the Šunik stream itself. The Šunik stream flows from the Planina Zagreben and is a tributary of the Lepenjica stream. Along the path through Šunik water grove, there are the remains of a mill that operated during the First World War, as well as the remains of an old sawmill. The most water is in the spring, because that’s when the snow melts in the mountains. But the most beautiful thing is when there is less water in the summer, when the water is crystal clear and takes on a lush green color.

Along the way, you can admire rocks covered with moss and cross wooden bridges. The entire route runs along the stream, where we will observe hundreds of rapids.
